The Hive

Thoughts on the convergence between design, branding, and marketing from Madison, Wisconsin-based graphic design agency, HiveMind, LLC

WORT FM identity rebrand

HiveMind recently had the pleasure of creating a new identity and brand guide for the wonderful people at WORT 89.9FM in Madison, WI.

WORT-FM is a cornucopia of volunteers and staff providing radio programming with a human perspective — respecting all peoples and their environments. The new identity needed to reflect this diversity and community as well as allow maximum flexibility of use for various application needs.

The radio station and it’s programming holds a place near and dear to the heart of HiveMind. One of those dream clients for sure!

Ni hou Google Translate for the iPhone!

Strictly speaking we’ve been self-obsessed with the new Verizon iPhone 4 as late. Which is why we flipped a lid of joy when we found the new Google Translate app for the iPhone.

The new app accepts voice input for 15 languages, and you can translate a word or phrase into one of more than 50 languages. For voice input, you just press the microphone icon next to the text box and say what you want to translate.

The voice recognition is EXCEEDINGLY accurate. We found even the most slang and crude sophomoric phrases translated effortlessly. Very cool. :)

An infographic that wets our whistle

Two things I appreciate: neat infographics and good beer. GOOD magazine’s “The United States of Good Beer” map reflects a poll of GOOD readers asked to identify the brewery in each state that best fit the criteria of sustainable brewing practices, independent ownership, and keeping a community focus.

I hail from Wisconsin, land of hops and malt, and I can’t even imagine how the poll fit all of the breweries in this fine state that both make great beer and hold to the principles GOOD magazine sought. Yup, we Wisconsinites know we’re spoiled.

Check out the map here to see which brewery is GOOD-worthy in your state.

Font ephemera for type geeks

The people at Veer caught my eye today with a new release from the peeps at Font Diner. Fonts retrofit from 1950’s Filmotype. See them here.
